Moonwalk 2006

On Saturday 21st May mum and I embarked on an adventure!! Off we went to Hyde Park wearing brightly decorated bras on a breezy Saturday evening to take part with 14,998 other people in the Playtex Moonwalk in aid of breast cancer. We walked 13.1 miles around the streets of London shortly after midnight and it was the most amazing experience ever!! Despite the blisters and the aching legs, we really enjoyed it and thanks to my generous freinds and colleagues I have managed to raise over £600 in sponsorship for a very worthwhile cause!

To be honest I didn't do half enough training and was really worried at the start that I wouldn't make it round and at the 10.5 miles mark I really didn't think my legs were going to take me any futher and really had to push myself to keep going, well actually it wasn't so much my legs as my feet! I bought some expensive "no blister" sock which do actually come with a gaurantee that if they cause blisters then you are entitled to your money back! Blisers, I've never known anything like it, I had blisters on blisters! Both my little toe were just one big continuous blister, plus I had two on the sole of my right foot!! I couldn't wait to take the damn socks of when I got home at 6am!! Anyway, despite the lack of training and blisters, we made it over the finish line in 4 hours 58 mins. We think we could have done it in 4 hours 15 mins had we not got caught at a bottle neck near Blackfriars Bridge for 40 mins! That was a really difficult part of the walk as it was stop start, stop start and then up two flights of stairs. I don't think this part of the course was planned as we heard later there had been a burst watermain somewhere on the course and they hade to put in a diversion, we think this was it!! I was really pleased with 4 hours 58 mins as I had anticipated it taking me 6 hours! Me of little faith!!

Soooooo, we have now decided to keep up the training and do it allllll again next year and to say I am looking forward to it is an understatement! We met some really nice people in the pink tent in Hyde Park and also on the way round! It was quite emotional at some points, especially when you see people with names and photos on their t-shirts etc. of people who have/are suffering the horrid disease or people that have sadly passed away because of it. My blisters are nothing in comparison and I would gladly have feet covered in blisters if it meant I could save one persons life. Mum was walking it for her friend who sadly lost her life to breast cancer two years ago.

Other news...... My brother came back from Dominican Republic with good news.... he and his girlf got engaged :o) Its so nice to see him so happy again after all the crap he's been through. I am soooo excited for him! He and Jo have decided to go back to DR in 2 years to get married :o)

Well thats all folks!
